About The Team

The Washburn Nordic Ski Team is for kids from 7th to 12th grade with all skill and ability levels welcome to join. Theodore Wirth is the home of the Minneapolis Conference and that is where the majority of our races and practices take place. A ski pass is required at Wirth which will be purchased for each skier by the athletic department. We also practice at Hyland sometimes and that requires a separate ski pass through Three Rivers, this pass will also allow them to ski at any of the other Three Rivers locations. Look for more information at the beginning of the season but each skier will be required to purchase a Three Rivers season pass, thanks to the booster club we are able to greatly reduce the cost. Buses will be provided to and from practices and meets.

Before being allowed to practice each skier will need to complete entire registration process sans the team fee. The following information will be updated on the Roster so everyone knows where they stand:
  • Sports Physical – make sure it is current, they do expire after 3 years
  • MSHSL Form
  • Emergency Card
  • Washburn Athletic Fee – $60
It is important that everyone be at every practice. Beginners need as much time as possible skiing as it takes generally 1-2 full seasons to fully grasp all the different techniques. Returning varsity, JV and novice skiers will use practices to improve their technique and endurance, this process takes time. Additionally, practices for varsity skiers are designed to have them peak at the end of the season and missing practices hurts their progress. Please see the Attendance page for more information about out attendance policy as well as the attendance spreadsheet.
